Our New Lizard

Today was a first. Jason always comes to find me and snuggle in the morning when he wakes up. Most of his life he woke up before me. Now that I am working and exercising early, I am up first. But he still comes to find me... until today. This morning (sunday) I slept in and as he got up I heard him go out the garage door. I thought, what the heck, where is he going, and then I remembered the new lizard, he is going to check on his lizard. I cant believe I have gotten the back seat to a lizard of all things. Well I went out to find him rubbing the head of his lizard again.Jason is so happy about this lizard. Two weeks ago we saw him on the cement sunning and Jason got his net. I told him how to sneak up behind it and put the net on top of the lizard and he got it. He had caught a lizard last year, but that one soon escaped. We found a box and put a screen on top to keep the lizard. Now we have to find bugs for it to eat, which is another great adventure. The last couple sat mornings we have been going to the creek to get bugs for the lizard. At the creek Jason can find a ton of bugs in an hour or so.Last week our friend Melanie suggested it was a blue belly lizard (as David is another fan of lizards and bugs). So we read on line about blue belly lizards and the fact that it likes to have its head rubbed stood out to Jason. Jason really wanted to rub his head, so Sat Jason got the lizard out and he and David both rubbed his head. And sure enough the lizard seems to hold still and close his eyes for it.
Besides having his head petted Jason has discovered he will hang on. This lizard better hang on for dear life!

A Trip to the Creek

Two weeks ago we went to the creek on our bikes.

Do you see a guy on a mission?

Other Lizard Encounters

Jason's first encounter with a lizard. He was two and a half.We inherited some gecko lizards early last year through Jason's school. There names are Mike and Ike.Last year Jason caught his first lizard, around Sept. A lot of sweat went into it!

We have had many critters around here over the years including lizards - critters are fun and are such a great learning experience for kids.
